1. TRIMMING – regular trimming can prevent cracked or broken nails. Stacy cautions you not to go overboard as you can cut into the quick if you over trim. So get in the habit of regularly checking and trim when needed. Some dogs grow more hair than others in between their toes, so keeping this hair trimmed will help prevent paw irritation and debris from being tangled in their fur.
2. DAILY PAW CHECK – By checking dog paws daily you will see if your dog incurred any cuts, scrapes or splinters, especially after any extra-curricular activities. Stacy reminds us that dog paws may be a bit tougher than human feet but they are still sensitive, and when exposed to natural elements encountered with normal exercise. . If there are mild cuts discovered, be sure to clean the cut with antibacterial cleanser and apply a bandage on the cut. If the dog is in noticeable pain, take him/her to the veterinarian
